The Mella Mobile App
The Mella Mobile App is compatible with 2.4G WiFi settings. Not compatible with 5G and the connection will not be successful. Having your smart phone connected to the right channel is the most important step when connecting your Mella. Here are some tips on this subject.
To adjust your settings for compatibility go to Settings > WiFi > Select 2.4G WiFi Option on your smart phone device.
If you do not see a 2.4G option please contact your internet provider and request that it is shown as an option.
Do not assume that the option that does not reference 5G is the 2.4G if you see two WiFi options
There is a way to check the channel that your network options represent from your computer. If you do not see a 2.4G option please call your internet service provider to request that option be revealed.
* From a PC - Settings/Network&Internet/click on the SSID
* From a MAC - Hold the alt/option button and click the WiFi icon in the top nav bar
* This will reveal the channel information
Why isn't Mella 5G compatible? Simply put it is not a 5G device nor does the functionality of the mobile app require such large bandwidth to perform properly and quickly.
GREEN FLASHING LIGHT: During the set up process please have Mella turned OFF for the first two steps. Only turn Mella ON when you get to the Connect to WiFi step. There is a 60 second window to input your WiFi password before Mella "times out". An indication that Mella has "timed out" is the green flashing light starts to flash rapidly. This does not mean you have failed. It simply means that Mella must be turned OFF then back ON to try again.
* When the Green Flashing Light turns off completely it means your Mella is Connected.
* Much like your smart phone, Mella will remember a network that it has previously connected to. If Mella remembers the network there is no need to go through the set up process again.
Mella device must be in the ON position in order for the App to function. If Mella device is turned OFF then the connection to WiFi is no longer connected. Turn Mella ON and OFF using the Mobile App
If there is an interruption in the WiFi connection Mella will default to OFF for safety reasons. To reset your Mella simply turn the knob to off (hear the off click indicator) and then back on to restore WiFi connection. There is no need to reconnect WiFi on your smart phone - Mella will "remember" the WiFi Network it was previously connected to.
